Bio
Satch Wakefield
Who Am I?
I’m Satch Wakefield, a Canadian musician and songwriter crafting a sound that blends modern blues rock and soulful storytelling. My music dives into life’s raw emotions—whether tackling injustice, reflecting on a hard day, sharing a funny thought, or celebrating the people who inspire me. While I’ve explored heavy metal, country, and folk in collaborations, my heart is firmly rooted in my personal project, where heavy blues riffs and infectious grooves take center stage.
This project started as a way to leave a legacy for my kids—a musical diary capturing who I am, what I stand for, and the experiences that shaped me. Over time, it’s grown into something bigger: a way to connect with listeners who resonate with authentic, heartfelt music.
My Background:
I played in heavy rock bands in my youth. I played extensive shows over many years during this time, which really cemented my commitment to music. I took a break from pursuing a career in music to build a family and work in other fields of interest. But, music has always been there calling me back. After 20+ years of exploring work in film and tv, I decided in (aprox) 2019 to rededicate my creative juices to music.
I find myself, as a “mature” musician, especially as a guitar player, pursuing more of a feeling than a genre. I really enjoy finding those solos and riffs that are more melodic than fast these days. This is what led me to play more of a blues/funk/soul based approach. Motown/soul, funk and blues have been in heavy rotation in my song library for many years, so it seemed like a natural progression for me. The heavy sound is a throwback to my youth. I still enjoy the aggressive sound of metal and hard rock, and still listen to that a fair bit, so the sound I have is really a mix of these 2 sides of my musical split personality. I decided early on, no limits, no specific genre, just write what comes to me. From fight songs like “Hold the Line”, to fun upbeat songs like “Rabbit Hole”, to country tracks like “Good Man”, I hope listeners see that I am just going where the muse takes me.
Over the course of the pandemic, I saw how people were treating each other over personal choices, government overreach, political differences. So, I have made a conscious choice to write in a positive way, even when dealing with very negative subjects. I try to state my opinion in songs, but not in a way to hurt others. Simply in a way to share my thoughts. There is enough negativity in the world today, I do not want to add to that. Music is therapy, for me, and for those who listen to it. It is an escape to a better place. I want to help make it a better place if I can.
What I am up to:
I am in the process of mixing and mastering my 3rd studio album “The Darkness That Follows”. I am releasing all music on my website first for people who are looking for new music, and releasing on streaming a while after.
Current release is “Vicious Cycle” available on all streaming sites. My current pre-release is “The Writing's on the Wall”, a critique of the corruption and power hungry politicians, particularly in Canada, but rampant everywhere.
I am currently working on collaborations with many other musicians, and always looking to do more! I have endless song ideas, so the more people I can involve to share an energy around a piece of music the better. My first album “The Covid Years: Part 1” released June 1st/ 2022, gave me a real sense of accomplishment, and I have been really happy with the response. My follow up album "The Covid Years: Part 2" was released in July of 2023. I have found new fans coming on board in higher numbers as my sound and style has evolved. I am currently in the studio recording my third album tentatively titled "The Darkness That Follows".
I continue to write new songs, I will also be releasing separately all the colab tracks that I am working on…hoping to put enough together for another album!
Stay safe, and hold the line!
